Furthermore, babies are not used to fly and feel those uncomfy symptons like the change of pressure that causes pain in the ears. But Air New Zeland has invented a new comfy seat to fly with babies. Air New Zeland has developed a seat for those people who travel with babies. This project won the Crystal Cabin Award for airline innovation. Travelling with babies could be really annoying and for sure it is tiring. Mothers have to have the baby on their legs for the whole journey. They can stand up but the aisles are never spacious enough to feel better when they get up. We don’t even have to mention the size of the bathroom. But this seat can change completely the way of flying with babies.

The project of this comfy seat to fly with babies was born in 2017. Air New Zeland launched a design called the Skycouch. This is about a row of three seats. They are standard chairs but they have an extra footrest that folds up to create a couch surface if you want it. This doesn’t need lot of space! It is only five feet long and two and a half feet wide. Moreover, you can also extend the room for your head if you want to relax and take a nap.The company offers pillows and bedding as well.

After introducing the early project of Skycouch, this has been implemend the year later to facilitate the journeys with babies. If you can make it easier and more comfortable for adults you can do it for parents and babies that face long journeys too. The development involved the use of an infant pod insert. This allows to lie down the babies (up to 40 pounds) during the flight. It is completely safety because there are seatbealts.

This is the first time that an airline company thinks about an appropiate seat for the babies. So they can sleep and their parents are free to move their legs. This special comfy seat for babies take up about two seats. The only problem for this kind of seats is that you should buy three economy seats. This could be more expensive than travelling with your baby on your lap but can definitely make your journey more comfortable and easier. This is clearly a business for the airline company because all parents are encouraged to buy this special seat (3 seats for the price of 2). It could be that in the next future more airline companies will think about these comfy seat for all passengers including the babies.
